Proficient aeronautical engineers were working hard turning what it was to be the most revolutionary wing design for a new fighter under development.
The day of the first flight test at speeds close to Mach 1, the test pilot decides to discontinue the test when he was aware of the fact that the instruments detect an abnormal vibration level in the wing area.
On the ground, the technicians find microfissures in the area where the wing joins the fuselage, which according to their opinion, are due to the behavior of the new materials used. The microfissures when growing become strange scratches looking like holes in the joins.
In subsequent flights even complete breaks happened, what could lead to the unfeasibility of the project.
After continuous studies and tests, in which the applied improvements don’t solve the problem, they took the decision to call for an international bid to which, of course, Spain applies. Spain is represented by a brigade and two privates coming from Morón Air Base. These three had already been notorious because of their deeds in the Qadhafi vs Rest-of-the-World conflict, helping in the cleaning of runways to facilitate the work of the Rest-of-the-World team.
Well, the idea of the people from Spain left everybody amazed. It was necessary to drill all the join area with holes apart approximately one inch each other.
Even though the above mentioned proposal was not welcome by the rest of experts there, and due to the fact that no other alternative was available they decided to take it into effect.
In the first test after this solution was applied, the planes reached Mach 2, what is unusual for a first test.
Asked the brigade about the physical principle which made this success come true, he replied:
“Well, the only we did was to applied the theory of the ‘toilet paper’. It never breaks through the dotted line!”
