That guy was from an important city in northern Spain, I don't really now remember the name but I remember it has an important harbour. He was stiring with his hand that dirty puddle as looking for something. Another passing by accosted him and asked:
"What are you doing?".
"Well, I have lost one copper in this puddle", he replied.
"And for one cent are you going to stain you hand and sleeve?"
"You’re right!" he said while putting his hand into his pocket, and taking a quarter threw it into the puddle.
"If it is not worthwhile for one cent, for twenty-six I would drink the whole puddle!", while introducing his hand back into the muddy puddle.
This joke reminds me of the story of that Scot that having lost his only shaving blade spent the rest of his life without shaving himself. When he died his beard was several feet long.
